Film

The Film programme was run in response to interest after the animation work made during the Pilot. Artist Carol Crowe lead workshop sessions in July and in November that explored using hand drawn slides to create frames for making short films with computer software.

The projected slides are photographed and imported using a digital camera, they can be manipulated in software, such as Photoshop if wanted, and then sequenced and built into film using iMovie. Sound effects and music can be added, and the finished films saved as Quicktime files on CD and DV discs.

A short film can explore pattern, colour and movement as much as tell a joke or a simple story, and a story can be made with as few as 12 slides. The tiny working scale of a 2 inch slide transfers a quality of energy and colour to a full screen projection that can be quite magical.

There was about an hour of film work put onto a DVD, which was screened with a data projector for everyone in the project, and at the Christmas party. The next part of this programme will look at using digital photographs taken around the city, or sourced online, to create individual pieces to a theme. The collective film that is made with them can be submitted to film festivals and public events for screening.

Most of the films can be viewed in a low resolution file on this website, which will give an impression of the work, but we will be pleased to arrange a full size screening if you contact the project.
