WARREN ZEVON : TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB LONDON
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25TH 1992
FROM SHAUN BELCHER
What do I remember? Well it was over ten years back.
My old school friend Neal Weston very kindly bought me the ticket
as I was back home in Didcot ( hometown) and as usual in one of my
artistic 'resting' periods i.e. even the building work I usually did
with my dad had dried up. So it was a major treat to go see Warren.
The gig I remember as being very packed
and the 'Forum' as it was known in Kentish Town (as it had been designed
with faux egyptian interior) was noisy, hot and sweaty. I don't think
there was a band and it was Warren solo on guitar and piano as my
major memory is of Warren doing some neat slide blues solo on a shiny
dobro and of him leading a singalong version of 'Werewolves of London'.
This may be the track that came out later on the live album culled
from dates on this tour I need to check.
I hadn't been an over the top Zevon
fan although liked the stuff my freind had taped for me but this gig
was something of a revelation. Here I started my love affair with
the song 'Splendid Isolation' which I now do when playing live.
Thanks Warren :-)
